I'm sorry this has nothing to do with cars, but help me choose a cellphone.

So, my iPotato5 no longer lasts a full day. I'm 23, on my dad's family plan, and would like to not have to lock him into another two years of my mooching come January. That said, I'd like to get something that'll last me.

The MotoX is on sale, non-contract for 350 right now for a 32gig model. Pretty awesome deal I think. The deal only lasts today and tomorrow. From what I've heard, this is a phenomenal Android phone.

I've been an Apple guy for a long time, but really won't want to shell the cash out for an iPhone 6 off-contract when it comes out, assuming it'll be expensive as always. While I'm fairly vested in the Apple ecosystem, it's real easy to diversify these days. I can also get around 220 if I sell my iPhone to a site like Gazelle or something.

Android's come a long way in my eyes, and the MotoX shines for me because it's as close to a pure Google experience without being a Nexus 5 (not on Verizon..).

Anyone made the switch from iOS to Android, while having an iPad and MacBook Pro? Tell me your experiences, likes/dislikes.

I don't have a picture, but I saw a Maserati MC12 drive down Greenwich Ave the other day. I nearly fainted and started to chase it. There's my contribution :)

$25 will get you a battery replacement for your iPotato over on iFixit ( here ). I replaced the battery in my wife's iPotato 4s, it's not hard.

I'm generally a proponent of Android, but I'm always a proponent of fixing the old hardware before buying new :P

Fix it yourself. There's a bazillion you tube guides, many from respectable shops or techies. Do what McLarry said and find a replacement battery. If your device works fine and is capable of doing everything you need then fix it. the money of that $350 you save after that battery fix can easily pay for a Cold Air Intake or Exhaust.....something fun.

I'm a HUGE ANDROID GUY.

I hate apple products.

That being said you have to jump through some loops to properly interact android and a mac OS computer. I have an iMac at work and I would have to add some apps to it to properly link up my Galaxy S3 so I use "AirDroid" which lets you take over your android phone through a web browser, then I can download/upload that way.

You'll have to get used to the idea that your iPad and phone won't be copies of each other, apps you have on one won't be on the other.

If you're cool with all that, for the price I don't think you could lose with the MotoX.

I'm probably bumping up to one of the new all-star androids next month. I'm between the Galaxy S5, the LG G3 (to be released end of this month), and the HTC One M8.

It's a tough call...oh and apple's not on my list for next month lol

I have the S5, and I have loved it so far. If you're looking for the Google experience and want to buy the phone off contract, you might want to look at the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition. It's the M8 hardware with the goodies of having a Nexus phone.

Eleven bucks on a new battery for my iPotato 4S and it got a new lease on life. Previously it couldn't make it to 5pm.

I'm gonna go ahead and 2nd the Samsung Galaxy vote. I have an S3 and it rocks, just make sure to buy a new charger with it because Samsung's micro-usb cables they give with their phones blow. It will result in your phone barely holding a charge eventually. S3s should be dirt cheap now, and S4s aren't bad either anymore. My roommate just got an S5 and it rocks. I also like a lot of the Windows phones that I've played with.

Unless the camera on the G3 is better, I'd go with the S5. I am highly impressed with its quality. I'll have further proof this weekend when I go to Supercar Saturdays just north of Chicago.

Yeah I'm having a tough battle on that one. I'm so angry at my Galaxy S3 right now it's really a struggle to consider the S5. It's been a pain in the ass for the last 6 months. Randomly shuts down, freezes up all the time, have to yank the battery or wait 10 minutes for it to realize it's not a brick.

I know the S5 is better though, it's 2 generations newer...it has to be.

As for the Camera, honestly I'm still impressed as hell with the 8mp camera in the S3 (despite it angering me) it has taken wonderful photos.

Here's a spec chart of the new big boys. The LG G3 is 3mp behind the S5 camera but it has the ability to have more RAM which could be totally worth it.

I had those issues with my Epic (Galaxy S1). I have insurance and ended up going through 4 S3's (2 due to screen cracks, 1 was a horrendous refurb that overheated frequently, and the one I still have), so I never really experienced the issues associated with owning a single one for the length of my contract.

If there's one thing I don't like about the S5 is the inability to talk on the phone and surf like I could with my S3. I can't see how that is considered progress.

I made the switch from Apple to Android, then back to Apple, then a couple more Androids. Then I landed on Windows Phone and could not be more pleased with life in general.

I have a friend that has had 7 different phones in the past 6 months. He knows your frustration.

Are you just talking about your phone battery not lasting? I'd just say fix it yourself, you can buy a new battery for like 30 bucks on amazon. One of the easiest repairs to do on an iphone and not like you have a warrantee you need to worry about.

I can swap a battery on a 5 in like 10 mins. It's like 5 screws and a pull tab, and the pentalobe screw driver you need for it is usually just shipped with the battery.

But the one thing you needa worry about switching from iphone to android is making sure you shut down your imessage to your phone number before you switch over, cause otherwise all of your friends who have iPhones messages will get lost in the void and they won't know you're not receiving their messages

Oh don't get me wrong. No frustration at all. I've made the switches over a number of years and devices, all of my own volition. I like to get a good feel of each system's architecture before deciding what's best for me

Best for me is Windows Phone. Not a whole lot of games, not a whole lot of time wasters, just a productive cohesive experience
